Kimbra – Splendour in The Grass
Her voice drew me into the tent, and then I could not take my eyes of Kimbra. So gorgeous and so damn sexy, dressed like a rock star, her make up was stunning, and she was oozing with confidence and style. This chick is really cool. And really really good at singing. She is only petite, but when I say this I am talking about her figure, her voice is enormous, her stage presence is huge.
Another outstanding act from Splendour in the Grass 2011, so talented and so young. Just 20 years old, from a little place that is close to my heart, Hamilton, New Zealand.
Kimbras’ style is a combination of Jazz, Soul and Indie Rock.
She has been likened to Nina Simone, Florence & The Machine, Bjork and Amy Winehouse.
I promise you’ll like this, check out I wanna settle down. Starting with just the vocals boom-buh-boom-ba, you’ll love the arrangement, and how the song builds. Her lyrics are quirky and funny, I love the rhythmic handclaps, and the different layers to this song.
Her own set was amazing, but later that evening Kimbra surprised splendour fans and joined forces with Goyte on stage for the song Somebody that I used to know. This song , if you haven’t heard it, is really hot. The Song starts out fairly quiet, and as Kimbra walked out on stage such a roar rose up from the crowd that Goyte had to stop and ask everyone to calm down. As if that was going to happen!
Kimbra’s Debut Album Vows will be out in Australia September 2nd. In the meantime you can get her EP Cameo Lover on iTunes.
You also cannot go past downloading Goyte, Somebody that I used to know, featuring Kimbra.
