Yukon Blonde

Yukon Blonde

I know it is only January, but spring just cannot seem to come soon enough for me; not only because spring brings, hopefully, less rain, but it also brings the release of a new full-length album from Yukon Blonde.
Yukon Blonde is a name that has been spreading like wildfire across the Canadian music scene. Tracks like: “Loyal Man”; “Blood Cops”; and “Babies Don’t Like Blue Anymore”; all from their 2010 self-titled album, have been burning up charts across the country all year. Here in Vancouver, where the band now calls home, I have had the pleasure of watching these guys rise up from a humble, hardworking band, to a well-oiled, fun-loving, rock and roll machine. They seem to respectively shrug off the comparisons to Crosby, Stills and Nash, and Fleetwood Mac, and why not. Although the band carries a somewhat retro feel, they seem to push past all that with a folksy-pop-rock twist that is uniquely Yukon Blonde; a sound I’m sure you will enjoy.

Last year was a triumphant year for the members of Yukon Blonde; not only did they perform on a North American tour of over 60 stops, but they also released a four track EP, titled Fire/Water, which we can only hope is a taste of what’s to come for their next album. Because the band has been touring across Canada for the past few years, they have gained a seamless chemistry to their sound. The guys look right at home on stage: their vast energy transferring throughout the crowd, coupled with their endless bag of tasty riffs. I highly recommended you get out and catch up with Yukon Blonde. If you like their sound, and their albums, you will be blown away by their live shows: a trait that is becoming increasing rare these days. As we speak, the band is gearing up to head back out on the road, on yet another tour, this time, world-wide; they have scheduled dates throughout Europe, and some back in North America. I caught their show a few months back, at the Biltmore Cabaret, here in Vancouver, and it was a tub-thumper. They will be back in town this April to play the windup show of the tour, and you can bet I will be there.
Don’t forget to keep an eye out for their newest album, which should be here before the snow melts.
