The Blind Owl Band

Now personally I believe that there isn’t enough banjo music in the world. So when I came face to face with The Blind Owl Band and I heard those banjo strings sing, I couldn’t help but smile. This four piece string band from Saranac Lake, New York has just released their debut album Rabble Rousing. The most appropriate album title I’ve ever come across. Every song truly makes you want to down your beer and dance on the tables. Clap your hands, stamp your feet and generally make an arse of yourself.

It actually takes some concentration to tear yourself away from the fun of the music and really listen to it. It’s not just James Ford’s banjo skills that impress. It’s all four of them. Eric Munley on Mandolin, Arthur Buezo’s gravelly voice and guitar playing, and Christian Cardiello’s well slapped Bass come together in perfect harmony. I say harmony, I mean raucous, swing your partner dozy dough, party music.

I see women in long flowing summer dresses and men with suspenders and hats. Drinking moonshine, and having a party. Rabble Rousing is one of the most fun albums I’ve had the pleasure of listening to in ages. So I say, grab your partner and check it out. You might be surprised at just how much you like it.
