Josh Flowers & The Wild

Josh Flowers & The Wild

Amazing vocals, contagious beats and a mischievous set full of fun and enjoyment. It’s easy to see why I left their recent gig with a childish grin and Josh’s evocative lyrics echoing on the outskirts of my thoughts.  Josh Flowers & The Wild clearly love what they do, and they aren’t the only ones. Playing for the first time with a full band, Josh Flowers & The Wild had the crowd at Notting Hill Arts Club in a folk induced frenzy.

The band have been together since late 2010 and have recently released an EP The Observatory Session, a collection made up of live takes in the old Radcliffe Observatory, Oxford.

‘The Observatory came up in a conversation with Squiff’s (cello) Dad who works for Oxford University. We wanted a space to record in that was both aurally and visually interesting. The reverb in there is massive and there’s an interesting story behind the building which we also felt was important. Since recording there the astronomy theme has very much become a part of what we are about.’ – Josh Flowers

The EP is beautifully crafted and flows seamlessly from opener ‘Eye Of The Needle’ through to the gorgeous ‘Mountains‘. Josh put his folk/blues influences down to his interest in early blues and 60/70′s American folk.  Brought up with an admiration of Paul Simon, John Martyn and Neil Young he now contributes a lot of their music to his current guitar style.

The band have an upcoming UK tour in March 2012 which we will give you further updates closer to the date. Their EP is available to purchase here and check out their video on the filming of The Observatory Session below. Enjoy!
