Parachute Youth

It’s time to bring some DANCE to thegrapevine. Introducing Parachute Youth! However I must admit, I’m a little behind the ball with this piece of gold.

Australian duo Matt and John met at a party a few years ago. They got talking and soon left to produce a song that is now providing them a lot of attention. Impressing the likes of Ajax and Sam La More they gave up life as they knew it and headed to Paris to engineer their track “Can’t get Better Than This”.

The group name comes from Matt’s background as an Avionics Technician in the airforce, working on jet fighters.

“Can’t get Better Than This” is happiness served on a turning dance floor. It has the uncertainty from 90’s dance and a sense of the dramatics reminiscent of rock eisteddfod hysteria.  Full of reverb, distant echoed voices and dramatised lyrics, “Can’t get Better Than This” melds the lyrics in and amongst the beat creating a story, not to be understood but to be felt.

Their track ‘Awake Now’ has very similar tones, pulsing beats and the same level of drama. Consistency can only mean one thing. If you’re onto something – keep going.

There are definitely older influences present in Parachute Youth’s sound but it also has an incredibly contemporary feel too. Today’s good dance track is today’s good dance track. Parachute Youth have huge tracks of ethereal indulgence, feeding pumping hearts with ecstasy and young minds with feeling.

There’s no dubstep in this but rest assured Parachute Youth have got everything they need. You know when you hear a song and you have to dance. Yep.
